When travelling in New Zealand countryside, I don’t even know if it’s better to say you are from Russia or Auckland. They know nothing about Russia just as I knew nothing about New Zealand when living in Russia. They dislike Aucklanders. It’s expensive, yay. Too much traffic. You can never own a house over there (which is true). Remember, as the hotel manager told us, Auckland is NOT New Zealand.

At 5.47 am this morning we went up to Kaiti Hill, Gisborne, East Coast, to see the sunrise. Isn’t that romantic, we thought. The two of us high up the hill were the first in the WORLD to greet the sun of a new day. Little did we know how popular the place at this time was. The first group of the many people we met up there were five huge gangster-looking men descending the hill. They did not show much interest in us, and we tried not to speculate on what they might have been doing up the hill before even the sun rose. Another car arrived in a few minutes parking next to ours. The driver neither rolled the windows nor left the car. We found it more nice to think they were just another couple of romantic idiots like us. The next vehicle got there in 5 minutes after the sunrise. About 8 happy young men and women, each with a bottle of beer or a glass of wine, jumped out of it. Loud and drunk yet smiling and rather friendly. Sensing foreignness in us they greeted us with Bonjour’s and Guten Tag’s. They wished us happy new year, too. We smiled and waived at them. Did not feel like rolling windows or unlocking the car though. The sunrise was very beautiful and memorable indeed. Hello to everyone from New Zealand, the least populated and most peaceful place on earth.

Я писала для фейсбука, где большинство говорит по-английски, а потом сюда тоже скопировала, здесь тоже кто-то говорит, но больше для себя, чтобы всё в одном месте. Я извиняюсь за неудобство, так-то я по-русски пишу для всех, кому интересно, не на свой круг:) Спасибо за пожелания! Я сама себе тоже желаю уверенности в себе, чтобы слушать себя и следовать ценностям значимым для меня, а уж что из этого общепринятое дело десятое:)
УдалитьВот мы с подружкой когда роудтрипим предпочитаем сказать что из Окленда. Тоже не любила Оклендцев когда жила на Короманделе, до сих пор его недолюбливаю, но объяснять каждому продавцу откуда ты родом и отвечать на стереотипные вопросы про Путина тоже замучаешься.
